On November 21-22nd 2015, methodological workshops were held in Edinburgh as part of the Academy of Polishness improvement study, entitled ‘Methodologies for supporting child and adolescent development’ during which participants gained more knowledge and improved their skills about: ‘Bilingualism – how to gain but to not to lose; how to enhance pupil motivation and make lessons more appealing?’ The organisers were firstly Katarzyna Czyżycka MA, a Polish philologist and speech therapist, who had lived in Hamburg, Germany working as a speech therapist for bilingual children, as well as a Polish language teacher at the SPK. She currently lives in Trieste, Italy and is writing her doctorate on bilingualism of Polish-German and Polish-Italian children. The second organiser was Elżbieta Raginiak MA, a Polish philologist who worked in this capacity during 2009-2015 as a Polish teacher at the School Consultation Centre in Rome for primary school to high school pupils along with teaching Polish as a foreign language for older adolescents and adults. This project was financed by the Ministry of Education as part of their remit in: ‘Educational support for the Polish diaspora by enhancing the professional development of teachers and organising summer camps and other forms of summer recreation for children and adolescents’.
